No state pupil activity permits can be approved by the district until we have results of your background check. Background checks should be performed at the Stark County Educational Service Center. You can schedule an appointment here: SCESC Background Checks. Current costs and other important information can be found at the Stark County ESC Site.

New coaches will be given a code to complete Coaches Tool Chest for free. Use These Directions.  It is a comprehensive online course covering many required topics. Coaches can set up their account at the Coaches Tool Chest Site. Email your completed certificaate to the athletic department.

You can apply for your PAP through your OH|ID account at the Ohio Department of Education (ODE). If you have never had an Ohio certification before, you will need your drivers license to create your account. Here is the link to ODE.

If your account is new, visit their “App Store” and search for Educator Licensure and Records (CORE).

  • Scroll to “My Credentials” and select “Apply for NEW Credential” if you have never been issued permit before. It will prompt you to apply for an “Educator State ID”. Follow the prompts and once the number is assigned apply for the new credential, You will select “Coaching Permits”.
  • If you have had a permit in the past, click on the “Action” tab next to your credentials and select “renew”.
  • Teachers can select the five year permit while non-educators can select the three year pupil activity permit.

When you are searching for superintendent’s signature use our IRN #049833 to ensure your application is routed to Canton Local Schools for approval.

Sports Mission/Vision

Canton Local Schools Sports aspires to provide a high-quality experience to every athlete. A high quality experience is one in which every athlete:

  • Is coached, challenged, and corrected in a positive way.
  • Feels like an important part of the team regardless of performance.
  • Learns ‘life lessons’ from competing, winning, and losing that have value beyond the playing field.
  • Learns the skills, tactics, and strategies of the game and improves as a player and teammate.

How WE do things HERE:

  • We value athletes and families and will use our resources to run quality programs for every skill level.
  • We value coaches and are appreciative of the extra time they spend away from their own families to be part of our families.
  • We value officials and game workers for the difficult and important jobs that they perform. We understand they will not be perfect and we will treat them with respect no matter the outcome.
  • We value coaching with an emphasis on skill development and the creation of a positive mindset of constant growth in ourselves and our athletes.
  • We value teaching our athletes to respect themselves, their families, their coaches, their teammates, their opponents, and the officials.

We Honor The Game Here by consistently striving to live out these values, ESPECIALLY when we do not perform our best, there is a call that doesn’t go our way, or we lose a close game.
