The school nurse acts as a liaison between home, school, healthcare providers and the health care community agencies to assist students and their families with health issues or concerns. The school nurse provides first aid for students and staff, health consultation for students, parents, and staff, as well as state-mandated health screenings and assessments.
Canton Local partners with Akron Children's Hospital as well district staff to provide nursing services.
Our nurses conduct yearly health screenings for students in various grades. Screenings consist of vision, hearing, scoliosis and BMI measurement. We also promote health and wellness by teaching lessons on hand hygiene, dental health, safety and growth, and development. Nursing staff audit all immunization records and maintain emergency medical information for staff and students, as well as oversee all medication administration for students. Our nursing staff strives to keep the best interest of each Canton Local student at heart while maintaining a healthy school environment.
