The Canton Local School District, home of the Wildcats, is located in
southern Stark County. Approximately 2300 students are enrolled in three
schools: H.R. Walker Elementary School (Grades K-4), Faircrest Memorial
Middle School (Grades 5-8) and Canton South High School (Grades 9-12)
which is also the hub for South Stark Career Academy. Walker Elementary houses the Canton Local’s preschool population.
What makes Canton Local excel? Its innovation, its Wildcat Pride, and service heart.
Let's take innovation. With our 1:1 laptop initiative, every student has all the technology they need 24-7 to raise the bar of learning, above and beyond 2:30 every day. Ask any student and they will tell you, having their own laptop changes the need for textbooks, their opportunities for learning outside of the classroom walls, and engages them to think in a more global manner.
Wildcat Pride reaches from our smallest Wildcats to our multi-generational families. It is not just about our sports teams, it is about working hard, loyalty, commitment, and good character. It is about doing what is right especially when no one is looking. When we hear, "Go Wildcats!" we all sit up a little straighter.
Having a service heart does not just happen, it is purposeful. Every grade, every student, every year develops their service hearts by "building bears" for young hospital patients, partnerships with a local nursing facility, honoring our veterans, welcoming newborns to our community, raking or shoveling for our senior citizens or championing a cause to better our greater community. It prepares our students to leave us as global civic-minded citizens.
Canton Local is more than about excellence; it is about innovation, pride and service.
