The financial operations are handled by three competent staff members - The Treasurer, A. Michael Bichsel, and Administrative Assistants, Diana Storch and Jan Lyon. They are responsible for all fiscal operations of the district. Michael is responsible for a wide variety of fiscal operations in the district. He must account for all dollars received and spent in the district. He must ensure that any grant money the district receives is spent properly in accordance with grant requirements. He is also responsible for paying the staff correctly based on their training, experience and certification. The Treasurer is responsible for seeing that all vendors are paid correctly and timely. He is required to certify that funds are available for payment on every purchase made. The Treasurer invests the funds of the district and administers a cash management program to ensure that funds are available when needed. He is responsible for complying with the many laws, rules, etc. regarding the fiscal operation of a school district. The Treasurer must prepare many reports related to grants and other fiscal procedures. An audited financial report must be completed annually and filed with the Auditor of the State. Diana is responsible for processing payroll bi-weekly for approximately 400 regular and substitute employees. In addition, she accounts for all employee benefits, calculates contract amounts and enters data into the computer system for new and current employees, Diana is a Canton South alumni. Jan processes purchase orders on a daily basis, verifying the forms are signed properly and have the correct coding before placing them in the mail. She also spends time answering questions from staff and vendors regarding purchase orders and/or invoices which are paid on a weekly basis for all vendors. Jan is also a Wildcat graduate.
