Counseling at FMMS

--------------------------------------------------

Individual Counseling
Students, parents, or teacher can request individual counseling for a student.  We all have bad days and talking can help.  School Counselors are good listeners and problem solvers.  Some reasons a student might want to speak to the School Counselor are listed in The top 10 Reasons to See the School Counselor document below.  To make an appointment with a School Counselor, complete a "Request for Appointment" form and put it in your School Counselor's mailbox.

Small Group Counseling

Small group counseling is offered throughout the year as needed. Some topics small group counseling may focus on include: self-esteem, organizational skills, behavior, anger, self-control, grief, divorce, and raising grades. Students can be referred for small group counseling by teachers, parents, counselors, or self. Please contact your school counselor if you feel small group counseling would be beneficial.

Classroom Guidance
Faircrest school counselors provide classroom activities by request.  As an 8th grader, students will participate in College and Career Readiness with Miss Rhoades and Mr. Busnick.  In this class students use OCIS to research careers of interest to them and create presentations on a chosen career.  All 5th and 6th grade students take part in character education with Ms. Barnes as part of their applied arts rotation.

"Request for Appointment" Form

To speak with me about an issue going on at school or home, students should fill out a “Request for Appointment” form. “Request for Appointment” forms are located in the main office. Make sure to write your first and last name on the form and put it in your School Counselor's mailbox. After turning in a “Request for Appointment” form it may take up to three days for a School Counselor to meet with you so please be patient.

Lunch Bunch

Students can sign-up to eat lunch with the School Counselor by signing-up in the cafeteria.  Your School Counselor will send a pass for you and a few friends to eat with her the day you are scheduled. The pass will be delivered during homeroom.

Girls Groups
On Fridays, School Counselors will meet with GEMS, GAPP, and GAMMA during grade level lunch periods.  Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade girl can join.  Listen to announcements for more information about these groups.
GEMS (Girl Empowerment Meetings)  for 6th grade

GAPP (Girls Are Mentoring and Maturing Altogether) for 7th grade

GAMMA (Girls Are Powerful People) for 8th grade
Compact for Success
8th graders have the opportunity to join "Compact for Success".  The purpose of "Compact for Success" is to begin thinking and preparing for college.  Kent State University (Stark Campus) meets with students monthly to discuss tips to prepare for college.  Students that are planning to attend college should consider joining "Compact for Success" as 8th graders.  To join "Compact for Success", students should sign a "Compact for Success" Contract and return it to Miss Rhoades.  See below.

Compact for Success Contract
Sign and return this contract to Miss Rhoades if you would like to participate in "Compact for Success".
Compact for Success Guidelines
By Signing the "Compact for Success" Contract, students are dedicating themselves to follow these guidelines.
