Another
school year is in the books! As we enter into summer I want to wish
our 2011 graduates best wishes as they pursue their different paths for
the future. In addition, our Boy’s and Girl’s Track team surpassed all
expectations sending a record 12 to the state tournament. Go
Wildcats…we are proud of YOU!!
Reflecting on my first year, three things I think went well include:
• The levy of course!!! With the passing of our renewal levy we can
not only maintain our current financial status, we can also upgrade
technology to allow us to provide 1:1 computing for grades 5-12. For
K-4 there will be better access and more technology throughout Walker.
• Negotiating our CLEA and CLCA contracts!! Negotiating early allowed
us to have fair contracts that acknowledged the work of certified and
classified staff. • Nifty Fifty! I love seeing a focus on
health/fitness and reading. There were pockets of excitement and I saw
evidence of decisions about snacks and movement made as a result of
Nifty Fifty. I hope this continues to grow and we can realize the
vision of one day being the healthiest community in Ohio.
As we
begin to plan for next school year, I want you to know that we believe
the educational programs and opportunities in Canton Local are among the
best in the state of Ohio! I cannot wait to unveil our plans for next
year in our next edition of Inside Canton Local Schools!
I’ll
close by thanking each of you for your support to make our district a
great place to be. There hasn’t been a day of my first year as
Superintendent that I haven’t been amazed at the high expectations, the
caring, and the ability of folks to do the right thing always for our
children and community. I will continue to believe in “The Power of
US!”
Have a wonderful summer! |
